Staying one step ahead
A good employer will invest in their employees by offering them the relevant training they require in order to do their job.
Even the most altruistic of employers however, are unlikely to offer the full support an employee needs to bring them to the next level of their career.
It’s important therefore that we take responsibility for our own professional development if we want to stay one step ahead of the game.
Whether we attend networking and training events, read journals, or join professional membership bodies, we should try to invest at least 10% of our working day in our own personal professional development. Not only will you feel more in control of your career path, but you will approach your current role with more enthusiasm and confidence.
Here are 3 key ways in which you can invest in yourself:
- Build and maintain your networks both online and in person
- Keep learning new things and sharpen your knowledge
- Be generous! Share your expertise, through writing articles, giving presentations or mentoring others
It takes time and commitment, but it will pay dividends.
