Creative training solutions for business growth and personal development

How on earth did I get 75 Twitter followers in 2 days?

As a small start up business, with a ‘to-do-list’ as long as my arm, I think this is quite a big achievement.  I know for those of you who get 1000s of Twitter followers in a day, this is tiny. I’m aiming for quality not quantity, as I want to build valuable relationships with my followers who share a mutual interest.

Here are 10 simple steps that are working for me.

1. Make sure your landing name reflects your business

I would have loved ‘@creativetraining’ but this was taken. So I went for @CT_Hub. Short and simple!

2. Make the most of your profile

I explained what my business will tweet about and wrote a call to action; ‘Book your trainers, presenters and speakers with us’.

3. Make it personable

I mentioned the person who will write the tweets @kemibamidele in my profile. So people have the option of following my personal tweets as well as the business account.

4. Drive traffic to your site

I included the web address in the profile, as a means of promoting the business and driving traffic to our website.

5. Think about who you are following

I went wild and followed 600 Tweet accounts. I didn’t expect them to follow me back. However, this was a useful means of researching the industry and finding interesting twitter feeds quickly. I’ve now started organizing these accounts into lists.

6. Strike a dialogue

I sparked open conversations with new people, encouraging them to connect. It works!

7. Vary your Tweets

I included a variety of tweets in my news feeds, promoting our services, linking to our website, sharing our online articles and blogs.

8. Select your retweets and posts carefully

I am conscious that I am building a brand, so I always click on the links before re-tweeting or posting items onto my news feeds. If I find it interesting, useful and easy to read, it’s good to go.

 9. Say thank you

I try to thank new followers openly and thank people for sharing their tweets or writing useful articles.

10. Tweet on-the-go

Having Twitter on my iPhone made it easy to write and produce 40 tweets in two days. I absolutely love Hoot Suite.

So let’s hope we can build more valuable connections and grow our business.  Please let me know if you have any other Twitter tips!

If you find yourself in a similar boat as me, I suggest you connect with @AbsoluteAlicia  and #TwitterBrilliance her free webinars and online training programmes are ‘absolutely brilliant’.  I also recommend Dave Kerpen’s books and @LikeableMedia. His book is an easy read and offers amazing tips.
